Mattresses have- unlike beds- a limited life. While the bed frame made of plywood or solid wood survives for several decades, the mattress becomes uncomfortable after 5-10 years. We wake up one morning tired in bed , we might also have a small zoo full of mites and bacteria.

Do not pay more than necessary

Conversely, if you bought a bed with a solid bottom without elastic lamellae, focus on mattresses with spring pockets. Even in the most perfect production foam mattress are not able to overcome the solid bottom limitation.

Look for a guarantee, which is five-, seven-or ten-years. Some manufacturers limit guarantee after two years to certain parts. If the manufacturer gives you a ten-year warranty on spring core, such a warranty is useless if its soft surface will deform and you will feel the springs.
The warranty of the new mattress and foundation you purchase is not an indicator of how long the product should be used before replacement. The warranty is there to protect the customer from product defects, not against the gradual loss of comfort and support.
Moreover, different manufacturers offer different warranties, and you should check with the manufacturer of your mattress for product-specific information.
Do not hold on the old rules, that the thicker the better. This is not true. There are many materials which mattresses are made of and each of them needs a different thickness to achieve the right properties for the intended load. Pay extra for matress with summer and winter sides with different heat absorption, or removable and washable mattress case.

You know the right one
The right mattress is neither too soft nor too hard. This means that its properties must be assessed individually, because each of us has a different body composition and weight. The best how you can discover the properties of the mattress is lying on the side.
It must be comfortable and sag only in places of body pressure. The spine should remain in a straight line. If when lying on your back hip section shall be forfeited, the mattress is too soft. Conversely, if lying down on the side, the mattress is not copying the body, it is too hard.
